Emergency Response
EJIF maintains a 24/7 Emergency Response Hotline for its members to call in the event of spills or discharges to soils, surface water or groundwater.
This service was designed by the EJIF to provide guidance to its members who may find the steps required to be taken immediately following this type of emergency confusing and intimidating.
The Hotline is monitored by representatives of the EJIF.
A caller activating the Hotline at 1-800-289-6681 will generally receive a return call within 15 minutes. It will then be determined whether an immediate site visit is warranted, or if it should be scheduled at a later, more appropriate time.
Response Plan
- Contact the local HAZMAT Response Team for your area, usually by calling 911.
- If a spill impacts soil, water or groundwater, contact the NJDEP within 15 minutes of detection at 1-877-WARN DEP(927-6337).
- Call the Emergency Hotline: 1-800-289-6681 and leave a message. An EJIF representative will return your call, generally within 15 minutes.
- Take names of all involved personnel and third parties and, if possible, take photographs of any suspicious situations or potential causes of the spill.
